Welcome to the new academic year

I can't believe this is the start of the THIRD academic year for Primary Music. We are looking forward to a fabulous academic year which will build upon the successes of the past two years. As a company we are growing from strength to strength and our reputation is starting to grow within the region, meaning we have the opportunity to deliver our high quality whole-class music lessons to more children than ever.

Our team has expanded this year. As well as myself, Livvy Hylton-Smith joined us in October 2017 and has been a wonderful asset to the schools where she is teaching. Livvy is a hardworking, conscientious member of our team whose passion for music shines through in everything she does. We now have the addition of Harry Dearsly, who has a degree in music and plenty of classroom experience as well as playing lead guitar/vocals in a prominent local band, The Barefoot Bandit. We are looking forward to being able to benefit from Harry's musical talent this year.

Harry and Livvy are now going to be offering music holiday camps and their first ones will be at Exmouth Community College on the Monday and Tuesday of half term, 9.00-3.30. Please email harry@primary-music.co.uk for details.

Fay will be running a music/dance day at Withycombe Raleigh Primary School with Katie Murray from Step Up & Dance, around the theme of Disney musicals. Email fay@primary-music for more information.

Once again we will be working alongside the BSO to give children the experience of seeing a full size professional symphony orchestra as well as performing alongside them. Composer James Redwood will be working with us again to help us deliver the key components which the children will learn, enabling them to have an incredible experience in February.

This year, we have more opportunities than ever to allow children to have hands-on musical playing experience. Our class sets this year include:

Steel pans
Taiko drums
Jumbie jams
P-Buzzes (a learner trombone)
Nuvo Toots (a learner flute)

We are so excited to be joining up with our sister company Primary Sports & Education to host a Festival of Sport and Music. This will showcase the children's talents and give an insight into how both our subjects can benefit the health, wellbeing and learning of our children. Watch this space for more information!

That's it from me for now... here's to a fabulous new academic year!
